Italy on a plate — cheesy, saucy, pasta perfect

Juicy tomatoes from Puglia, fresh Bocconcino or buffalo milk mozzarella cheese from Naples and authentic recipes cooked in extra-virgin olive oil are a few of the delights offered by the newly launched Italian restaurant, La Tagliatella in the capital. As one enters the tastefully decorated premises, it gives a feel of a quaint Italian bistro.

On being seated, we are served an array of foccacia bread with green olives, tomatoes and onion, Pane Della Tagliatella along with a chilly olive oil. While the latter turned out to be an interesting variant of the now familiar oil, the bread was palatable but not extraordinary. This was followed by an Insalata Torre di Pisa or grilled vegetables, with mozzarella and black olives with some fruits of the forest vinaigrette dressing. The dressing was lovely with a strong hint of berry and other citrus fruits . The huge slabs of mozzarella turned out to be tad bit more than desired. But then, the place is a haven for cheese fanatics! As we steered towards main course, we couldn’t help notice the numerous combinations of pastas and sauces available. Made in authentic tomato base, Amatriciana Maccherroni Tradizionali, was authentic, filling and the bacon quantity was just right. The restaurant prides itself over its thin-crusted, wood fired pizzas. The Pizza Melanzana that had caramalised aubergine, parmiggiano reggiano and honey as topping is one of the best bets.
And in the end, do not miss out on the refreshing lemon sorbet, that brings in a fresh burst of lemon into your palate, that reinvigorates a system, loaded with heaps of cheese and thick sauces.

I want to begin with a little story that was told to me by a leading executive at Aptech. He was exercising in a gym with a lot of younger people.

Shekhar Kapur’s Bandit Queen didn’t make the cut. Neither did Shaji Karun’s Piravi, which bagged 31 international awards.
