No one can teach you to tell a story

Do you think films have potential to bring about social changes?
No, because I have not seen a surge in joint families since the release and block-buster success of Hum Aapke Hai Kaun.

What is fact?
Your own perception and interpretation
You say nobody learns from anybody. What about students from a teacher?
I always hated my teachers because I wanted to learn and not be taught. Learning comes from within and teaching just programs.
Can you write an article on the basics of story telling?
Ha ha ha ha he he ho ho! Well... that laughter was intended for those who think I don’t have a sense of story. I just wanted to make them happy for a moment. Seriously speaking, writing a story for a film is primarily about having an aptitude for storytelling and no one can teach you the art of storytelling.
What is your opinion on Devdas kind of lovers who commit suicide?
Anybody who, instead of enjoying their drink use it to drown themselves in their stupid misplaced emotions, very well deserve to die.
Unlike other philosophers why did Ayn Rand choose to convey her philosophy through fictional works like Fountain Head etc.?
That’s because in her fictional stories she can dramatically apply her philosophy to practical, everyday aspects to send her message across. She very well understands that the intellect of dumb people like you and me is not enough to grasp her straightforward philosophy.
Why do people get jealous?
Human nature is such that every individual wants to be in the centre of frame and they can’t take it when they are not in focus or when the camera of life moves away from them.
Why do people who want lust start with love?
Because love is the best currency to buy lust with and the best buy of lust can be only with love
How were you as a kid?
I was smart enough to realise that my teachers and parents were programming me to grow up on their terms. So I rebelled and grew up on my own terms.
I think you should make a film on Srinivas Ramanujam, the famous mathematician.
Forget making a film. I hate Math so much that if he didn’t die I would have killed him myself.

I want to begin with a little story that was told to me by a leading executive at Aptech. He was exercising in a gym with a lot of younger people.

Shekhar Kapur’s Bandit Queen didn’t make the cut. Neither did Shaji Karun’s Piravi, which bagged 31 international awards.
