‘Our feelings control us’

From where do you get ideas like — a boy placing a coin on a railway track in Kshana Kshanam or a beggar eating off a newspaper in Satya?

From a space called the ‘brain’ in between what are popularly called ‘ears’. Seriously speaking, it’s more of a standard procedure I practise to create an atmosphere of reality for the scene or situation.

Ayn Rand and her objective have zero value for me.
Okay, Mr Zero. You are welcome to wallow in millions of other zeroes like you.

What is creativity according to you?
Creativity according to me is to un-create an ex-creative idea.

How do you describe yourself — a person to be taken one per cent lightly or 99 per cent seriously?
Haha. Actually, you should take my 99 per cent light-heartedness seriously and my one per cent seriousness lightly.

What is the difference between feelings and thoughts?
We control our thoughts, but feelings control us.

What is the funda behind people bashing a film when it flops?
A film flopping is like a person dying. The only difference is that at the former, they sympathise with the dead person and the latter they will tear apart.

My father makes me feel inferior.
That’s because either he is superiorly inferior to you or you are inferiorly superior to him.

Do you think expectations are actually relationship-killers?
I think relationships are expectation-raisers.

Thousands would have appreciated the beauty of Sridevi, but she would have never appreciated it herself. Do you agree?
That’s true. If a diamond knows its own value, it can never be a diamond.

I am in love with you. Will you marry me?
Only if your vital stats are 36-24-36 till the time you die, you have a face that I will never tire of seeing and a mind, like that of author Ayn Rand. And, if you love all of my films — including Aag.

I want to begin with a little story that was told to me by a leading executive at Aptech. He was exercising in a gym with a lot of younger people.

Shekhar Kapur’s Bandit Queen didn’t make the cut. Neither did Shaji Karun’s Piravi, which bagged 31 international awards.
