Add colour to patriotism
With Independence Day spirits flying high in the air, it’s time to wear it on your sleeves too. On this Independence Day, fashion experts guide you how to dress up right, with a casual Tee, a simple white kurti or a pair of bright slippers or shoes. Just go ahead and take pride in flaunting the hues of the tricolour in popular Indian fabrics like jute and khadi to celebrate this day.
From simply teaming up bangles in these three colours with a white kurti, to sporting a small badge on your sleeve, designers suggest easy, yet patriotic “Independence Day” attire for you.
Fashion designer Nitin Bal Chauhan says, “Punk is in.” “You needn’t necessarily wear all three colours together, but you can focus on one specific colour and accessorise other colours in your bag, belt, or wear a tricolour badge. Just concentrate on using just one colour from the tri-colour and others can be a part of your accessories,” he says. For designer Ritu Kumar Independence Day should be celebrated in a khadi attire. “If you really want to pay tribute to the national flag, there’s nothing better than a khadi saffron kurta is the easiest way to do it. If you have a white khadi kurta, a tie and dye dupatta in saffron and blue would look apt. If you want, you can also wear bright bangles.”
Designer Atsu says you can wear a casual look, with colourful accessories to team up with your outfit. According to Atsu, white rules the day. He says, “Try out a white dress, or a white jumpsuit and team it with colourful accessories like bangles, a trendy neckpiece, or bright-coloured shoes. Preferably, don’t go overboard with colours. Only pick one colour in one accessory.” So what if you don’t have a khadi kurta or bright shoes? Nida Mahmood suggests, “Pick up any of your white T-shirt, and sprinkle it with green and saffron fabric colours. Make your own style statement by painting your Tees with I-Day slogans. It’s cool, fresh and stylish.”
