Brazil hotseat goes to Menezes: Confederation

Rio De Janeiro, July 24: The Brazilian Football Confederation said Saturday they had offered Corinthians' coach Mano Menezes the chance to succeed Dunga as national coach.

Menezes moved into the frame Friday after Fluminense refused to countenance the release of highly-regarded Muricy Ramalho from a contract running until December.

Menezes was contacted overnight by Ricardo Teixeira, the head of the Brazilian Football Confederation (CBF), and the coach was later Saturday set to announce his acceptance at a press conference in Sao Paulo.

"Menezes was already on a three-man shortlist, drawn up during the World Cup in South Africa. And his name was confirmed following talks with Texeira during which he approved the renewal project decided by the CBF pertaining to the 2014 World Cup which Brazil will host," the CBF said.

Menezes is set to be officially unveiled Monday, which is also the deadline for the squad to be announced for the August 10 friendly international against the USA in New Jersey.

Dunga was sacked after five-times champions Brazil were knocked out of the World Cup in the quarter-finals by the Netherlands.
