‘Course crucial for grassroots development’
The D License coaching programme organised by the All India Football Federation at IIT New Delhi earlier this week was an important step towards grassroots development of the sport, national coach Wim Koevermans has said.
“This is very essential. I have been a part of coach education for long and I can tell you that D License Programmes are essential for grassroots development.
“You need good coaches to look after young players at the grassroot level,” Koevermans said on the sidelines of the practical sessions.
The course was conducted by Scott O’Donell, technical director, Academies, also the director of coach education.
Mohammad Yusuf Ansari and Kundan Chandra were the two instructors looking after the 36 participants who went through practical and theory sessions over the last six days.
O’Donnell echoed the sentiment. “Grassroots stay on the top of our priority list and hence this course stays important. You need good coaches at that level and the D License course prepares you for that,” he maintained.
