Frank Lampard had a perfectly good goal ruled out in England’s World Cup last 16 clash with Germany on Sunday, an incident which will once again spark a debate over the use of goal-line technology in football. Here we list some of the recent goals that never were:

Trailing 2-1 to Germany, Frank Lampard’s clever lob over Manuel Neuer in the German goal came off the underside of the crossbar and bounced down, clearly crossing the line, but Uruguyan referee Jorge Larrionda, who was well-placed to see the incident, looked at his linesman and then waved play on.
Thierry Henry
(France vs Ireland)
Ireland were leading 1-0 in the second leg of their World Cup play-off at the Stade de France (1-1 on aggregate) when Henry controlled the ball with his hand before crossing for William Gallas to score the crucial goal which sent France to the finals.

Liam Ridgewell
(Birmingham vs Portsmouth)
Just hours after the International Football Association Board had voted against the introduction of goal-line technology in March this year, Birmingham’s Liam Ridgewell had a headed goal disallowed in his side’s 0-2 FA Cup quarterfinal defeat at Portsmouth.
Replays showed the ball crossed the line before England keeper David James blocked it. — AFP
