Delhi school start on losing note
Delhi Public School, Vasant Kunj , went down to St Joseph’s High School, Calicut, by a 1-2 margin in the inter-city leg of the 3rd Mahindra Youth Football Challenge, which kicked off at the Bangalore Football Stadium on Wednesday.
Javed Hassan and Leon Augustine scored once each for the Calicut side, while Sanat Gupta was the lone scorer for the New Delhi team. St Josephs’ Lazim Ali was the star performer of the match.
In other matches, Kolkata’s Ashoknagar Vidyasagar Banibhaban routed Panjim’s Don Bosco High School 5-0, while Don Bosco, Matunga, outplayed Greenwood International High School, Bengaluru 2–0.
A brace each by Sanjib Malakar and Dipankar Baral, and one by Santanu Debnath featured in the Kolkata team’s big win. Suman Dutta was man of the match for his performance.
For Don Bosco, Matunga, Pierre Noronha and Nathan Fernandes scored in the 33rd and 43rd minutes of the game, with Fernandes later being named the star performer.
