England’s Walcott doubtful for Ukraine match
English winger Theo Walcott is doubtful for their crucial final Group D match with co-hosts Ukraine in Euro 2012 Tuesday. The 23-year-old Arsenal star, who scored and then created Danny Welbeck’s winner against Sweden Friday, suffered a recurrence of a hamstring injury in training Sunday, reported Xinhua.
“Unfortunately, he had a slight setback in training today,” said England head coach Roy Hodgson. “He felt the hamstring (taut) that kept him out for so long at the end of last season and we were slightly concerned about that when he came to us.”
“In the little training session we had today, we had to take the precaution of taking him from the field because he felt a slight tightness there,” added Hodgson, who will make final decision after Walcott is assessed by the squad’s medical staff. England are now the second on goal difference to France in the group, and need no less than a draw from the last round to guarantee a place in the quarter-finals. Ukraine need to win to progress.
