Ex-Real star Figo to grace FPAI awards?
The Football Players’ Association of India is determined to give an international feel to its annual awards ceremony this year, which is likely to be held during the first week of August either in Goa or Mumbai, and former Portugal and Real Madrid star Luis Figo could grace the event.
Although the confirmation from Figo is yet to arrive, FPAI secretary Sumit Mukherjee sounds optimistic of a positive outcome.
“We seized the initiative during the time when Baichung (Bhutia) was conferred honorary membership of the PFPA (Portugal Football Players’ Association). Even if his presence is yet to be confirmed, we certainly have had some discussion about Figo. Let’s see how things pan out in the coming days,” he told this newspaper. “Besides Figo, we have got in touch with other international stars as well,” Mukherjee added.
