Fifa on the streets
Fifa Street, a franchise with so much potential that it’s hard to imagine how someone can get it wrong so many times. After three very average games with poor mechanics, fans all over were left dejected. It could easily have been the end for the series. But now, after almost four years in exile, Fifa Street is back with a bang.
With Improved graphics, revamped gameplay, dozens of tricks and some wicked music, the new FIFA Street does a brilliant job of bringing you the best possible freestyle football experience.
The highlight of the game is the extensive world tour mode. Players start off with a new street Pro (FIFA 12 players can import their virtual pro) who’s just looking to play some street football. You then find yourself in charge of the local street football team as they look to make a name in free style football across the globe. You must compete in different match types in the world tour mode in order to improve your national rank to be able to progress to the next stage or country.
The different match types add depth to the game. They range from 2 v 2 matches to full 6 v 6 tournaments. The futsal matches are usually indoors with no walls. The 2 v 2 panna mode gives players points in their bank for beating opponents with tricks. A similar freestyle mode gives points for the number of tricks and flair moves in the buildup to a goal, it’s not the goals that matter, it’s how you score them. Though the career mode is one of the best among all FIFA titles, you will find yourself hitting against the wall quite often just to progress.
Fifa street brings a host of new tricks, and unlike earlier titles, they don’t look absolutely ridiculous while you’re playing. However there is a STEEP learning curve, you have been warned. There are a few helpful videos that outline the basics, but you will have to put in some time and effort to master the flair and finesse of freestyle football.
For players who want to jump straight into the action there is a hit-the-streets mode and for the competitive players, there are online leagues.
All in all, Fifa Street is a gem of a game, a breathe of fresh air in the football genre and one that keeps the Fifa Street franchise alive.
