Football now a quizzing affair

Soon after Mario Mandzukic scored a third- minute goal in the match between Croatia and Ireland, a post, “Who holds the record for the fastest opening goal ever in Euro Championship?

” appeared on the page of Quizzers’ Leagues, a football quizzing community founded by Army man Major Chandrakant Nair.

Blending the passion for football and quiz, a set of people are active on virtual world, claiming it to be one of the unique initiatives to discuss and share their knowledge on football.

“The idea is to discuss football through quizzes. The community has already conducted 215 online football quizzes,” says Chandrakant Nair, a native of Kozhikode and now working in the Army Medical Core at Thiruvananthapuram.

A quizzer from his college days, Chandrakant Nair got the idea to start the football quizzers’ community during the FIFA World CUP, 2010 to share and conduct quizzes with his friends. “Soon after I started the community, the members started to add their friends. Now we has 105 members,” he says.

Though it is a public place to discuss football, the community is a closed one to preserve the quality of discussions.

“Only if a member is good enough to our standards and recommended by our members, we will add them. This is to maintain quality for the discussions,”says Chandrakant.
