Former India footballer Bernard no more
Delhi’s former international footballer Gabriel Bernard died following a brief illness in New Delhi on Sunday. He was 60 and is survived a son and daughter and his grandchildren.
Bernard lost his wife last year.
Bernard began his football career in Delhi’s league championship from South India Football Club as a defender in 1969 and later represented Shimla Youngs FC in 1971 in local senior division league and tournaments like the DCM Cup, Durand Cup, Rovers Cup, IFA Shield and other prestigious events.
He also played for Indian National FC, Youngmen and City Football Club from 1975 to 1987.
Bernard represented Delhi in the senior national championship at Cuttack, Patna, Coimbatore besides being part of the Indian junior team who were joint winners in the Asian Junior Championship in Tehran.
