Groundsman Barua no more
Former Delhi Soccer Association groundsman and caretaker Chetan Barua passed away on Monday following a brief illness.
Barua, popularly known as Bahadur in football circles, was 55 and is survived by his wife, a son and two daughters.
Barua collapsed five days ago while preparing the Ambedkar Stadium for an ongoing summer coaching camp. He was immediately rushed to the LNJP Hospital and was diagnosed having suffered from a left-side paralytic attack.
He was associated with tournaments like the DSA league, Subroto, Durand, AIFF’s national/international football activities for two decades. Barua was also a specialist in preparing grounds single handedly.
All India Football Federation vice-president and DSA president Subhash Chopra and the managing committee members condoled Barua’s un-timely demise.
