HFC boys seal Super 8 berth
Hindustan Football Club qualified for the super eight stage of the Delhi Soccer Association annual senior division football championship, beating Shimla Youngs FC by a solitary goal in their Group A game at the DDA Netaji Subhash sports complex in Jasola on Sunday. Hindustan Football Club’s Japanese import Chacko scored the only goal of the match in the 25th minute.
Hindustan FC now have 13 points from five matches and still have a match to play against Goodwill Club on Wednesday. Shimla Youngs have completed their engagements and are at three points from six matches.
At the Commonwealth Games sports complex, Goodwill Club rallied to beat New Delhi Heroes FC 2-1 to keep alive their chances of qualifying for the next round.
The Heroes took the lead early when Siddhartha scored in the fifth minute of the match. Goodwill fetched home the equaliser in the 32nd minute through Rajesh Mithai. Amit Rawat then scored in the 67th minute to complete the scoreline. Goodwill Club have 10 points from five matches, while ND Heroes have just one from five.
In the third match of the day, Shahdara Club beat Garhwal Heroes by a solitary goal.
