Holland, beware, Kaka likes going Dutch
A swift counter-attack, the ball reaches you on the edge of the box and you are unmarked – you could just as well hear the ball blurt out, “shoot me”. What do you do? If you are Kaka, him of the boyish good looks, you one-touch the pass to the open striker and then head to the corner flank and join in the revelry.
The Real Madrid ace did just that in the build-up to Brazil’s second goal in their 3-0 win over Chile on Monday.
It pays to have a marquee player as a teammate, just ask Luis Fabiano. The Brazil striker has benefited immensely from the presence of Kaka, who has set up two of striker’s three goals at the 2010 Fifa World Cup. The duo’s great understanding stems from the time they were together leading Sao Paulo to the Brazilian championship.
“We have a very good connection, especially because of the time we played together for Sao Paulo. One look is enough to know what we are going to do,” Kaka said.
Fabiano added, “We have a perfect connection. I just have to get in position and I know he will get the ball to me.”
Running short on goals and high on yellow cards, the stylish playmaker said helping Fabiano to the Golden Boot would be the icing on the cake if he could lead Brazil to a sixth world title.
“Of course everyone wants to score goals in a World Cup, but honestly, it’s not something I worry too much about. I’m happy to keep helping my teammates score so Brazil can keep winning. I hope to give him many more assists in the rest of the World Cup, so that he ends up as the top scorer,” said the 28-year-old.
Fabiano is currently a goal behind Spain’s David Villa, Gonzalo Higuain of Argentina and Robert Vittek of Slovakia – who has already bowed out. However, for the Sevilla frontman no amount of goals will bring the joy that would come from leading Brazil to the world title.
“I’m trying to help Brazil win the title, that’s what I want. If in the end I’m also the top scorer, better.”
