I'll love to own Kolkata franchise in football league: SRK
New Delhi: Kolkata Knight Riders co-owner and Bollywood superstar Shah Rukh Khan is interested in buying the Kolkata franchise of the new IPL-style league promoted by All India Football Federation (AIFF) and IMG-Reliance.
Shah Rukh said he had earlier thought of buying stakes in Goan I-League club Dempo but now with a new league coming up, he is toying with the idea of bidding for the Kolkata franchise. "Earlier I was planning to buy stakes in Dempo and now with the new franchise-based league coming up, I will have a look at it. I will love to own a franchise," Shah Rukh told a TV channel. "I will love to have the Kolkata football club."
Eight clubs, 176 players, 72 overseas stars and 10 weeks of packed action - that is how the AIFF`s commercial partner IMG-Reliance plans to glamourise Indian football early next year. The IPL-style new tournament is tentatively scheduled to be held from January 18 to March 30.
Pune, Mumbai, Chennai, Kolkata, Kochi, Goa, Delhi and Bangalore will be the eight cities where the franchises would be based. Guwahati and Hyderabad have been kept as reserve franchises. The auction for the eight franchises to take part in the tournament will be held in September-October while the players' auction will be held in November.
