India Colts head to Dubai
A 28-member India Under-22 football squad left for a training camp in Dubai on Thursday night, ahead of their AFC Championship (Qualifiers).
The team, coached by Australian Arthur Papas, will undergo an eight-day training camp at the Al Wasl training grounds.
The Colts will also get to play two practice matches .
The boys will then leave for their first Group A match against Lebanon on June 23 at the Al Seeb Sports Stadium in Muscat.
Papas, who has been in charge of the squad since June 1, admitted that it was a tough group.
“They are quality teams. But since we have trained together since the first day of the month, there are signs of improvement. But all of us, including me need to be patient,” Papas said.
During their training at home, the Indian squad played two friendly matches against selected Delhi XI and won both of them. For the U-22 AFC Championship, the squad would be pruned to 23 before they leave Dubai.
