Kerala boys seal U-17 final berth
MSP Higher Secondary School of Kerala recovered from an early deficit to beat Manipur’s Little Angel Paradise English School on penalties 4-2 in the semi-final of the Under-17 Subroto Cup schools football tournament in the capital on Wednesday.
With the win, the Kerala boys became the first team from the state to qualify for a Subroto final. The Kerala team took time to find their feet and fell back by a goal in the sixth minute, when Prikanta directed the ball into the net at the Ambedkar Stadium grounds.
MSP struck back through Salman K. in the 19th minute to restore parity. The teams went neck-and-neck from thereon, only to force the match into penalty shootout.
In the remaining two quarter-finals, Air Force School, Subroto Park, will take on Tamil Nadu’s Sports Hostel while FC Dynamo Kyiv will face Steqlal High School of Afghanistan on Friday.
The winners of these matches will face off in the second semi-final, to be played on Saturday.
Meanwhile, Air Force Bal Bharti School pumped in five goals against Daman and Diu in a group encounter, with Uma Shankar (21, 35) and Anirban (25, 30) scoring a brace each.
