Kids build skills at Shillong camp
The second and final day of the Panasonic Dream Camp in Shillong saw youngsters getting tips from India international player Gouramangi Singh on the art of defending. Former India football coach Savio Medeira was also present and educated the kids on sports nutrition.
The aspiring footballers had three training sessions through the day including two outdoor sessions. In between the outdoor sessions, there was a classroom session taken by Medeira.
The morning stint dealt with defending techniques. This session comprised of small sided scenarios, possible in a football game, apart from defensive positioning, basic principles of defending and gradual progression.
Singh’s experience was used by the boys in following various defensive movements and covering opponents.
Medeira took over in the classroom session and gave valuable tips on importance of nutrition and its benefits. This was followed by a look at a few goals from Indian team matches against Tajikistan and Syria in the AFC Challenge Cup and ONGC Nehru Cup respectively from 2009.
The evening session introduced the players to Indian football’s new philosophy — the 4-4-3 formation. They were also attuned to different field positions and play, movement off the ball and defensive shape formations.
