London’s revenge
Table-toppers Manchester City will want to keep their position intact even as Tottenham look to close the gap
Manchester City v Tottenham
How do you turn a team that looks like the after effects of a gargoyle’s meal to look like Elisabetta Canalis in a PETA campaign (Google it NOW!)? Why, throw a billion dollars at it!
And that is exactly what has happened in the blue half of Manchester. A team that was trampled over by Tottenham for much of the last 3 years, or since the era of A.D (After Dollars), suddenly go to White Hart Lane and obliterate the same side 5 goals to 1.
This was 3 days after Mancini had allowed Togo’s poster boy Adebayor to go on loan to Tottenham. It went to show that he didn’t believe Tottenham were genuine rivals and the Spurs duly indulged in Mancini’s belief.
Around 5 months on, City have been looking over their back as a resurgent Tottenham, led by the goals of Emmanuel and the brilliance of Gareth Bale are only 5 points off the leaders and gunning for glory.
Mancini will rue the fact that he is missing Vincent Kompany and the Toure brothers but Spurs can’t play Adebayor against his parent clubs which evens this out.
Revenge Status: City are 10/10 at home in the league. They won't lose.
Predo: 0-0
Arsenal v Manchester United
When Spurs were obliterated by City on that fateful day in White Hart Lane, Manchester United had one thought in their mind — What City can do, we can better! So they went on to defeat Arsenal by a scoreline that sounds more like the first 2 minutes of an NBA game.
This game is the reason why the Premier League is the best in the world. Beyond avenging their embarrassing loss at Old Trafford, the returns of legends Thierry Henry and Paul Scholes adds spice to this recipe.
In the last six years, Manchester United have won as many trophies as Barcelona & Arsenal combined. Or just as many as Barcelona. In the same time period, the Red Devils have won 10, drawn 3 and lost just 4 scoring 32 times and conceding 14 in all competitions.
Safe to say the champions have the Gunners all figured out. But they have never gone to the Emirates having destroyed their rivals quite like this before.
Its crisis club versus crisis club. And for one of them, the trend will change.
Revenge Status: Arsenal may want to forget about that game entirely. This dish won't be served… cold or not!
Predo: Arsenal 2-2 Manchester United
