Mounik scores 2nd treble

Onslaught FC continued their free-scoring run in the Peter Thangaraj Memorial football tournament as they defeated Bolarum Sporting 4-2 at the Gymkhana Grounds in Secunderabad. Onslaught opened the scoring just two minutes from the kick-off, not surprisingly through their very own goal-machine — Mounik. However, Bolarum responded to the early blow superbly.

In the fourth minute, Bolarum’s Tirupathi beat the off-side trap set by the Onslaught FC backline with his well-timed run before slotting the ball past the goalkeeper. However, Onslaught restored their lead just after five minutes as Mounik once again did what he does the best, muscling past the Bolarum defenders to shoot for goal.

But they could not hold on to the lead for long as Bolarum’s Sunil found the equaliser in the 18th minute of the match, courtesy some poor marking by the Onslaught defence. However, fortunately for Onslaught, their offensive prowess overcame their defensive frailties. A lightning fast attack down the flank by Onslaught was capped brilliantly by Mounik in the 28th minute to complete his second hat-trick of the tournament.

Onslaught this time managed to hold on to the lead till the half-time whistle. More importantly, they resumed the match just the way they had set the ball rolling. Standout performer Mounik found the back of the net within three minutes of the half to make the scoreline 4-2.

Onslaught immediately shelved their attacking strategy to plug the holes in the back, giving no chance for Bolarum to script a comeback. In another match, Saidabad FC defeated Bengal Goldsmith by a solitary goal. The tie then seemed to be flatline. But all that changed in the 50th minute, when Goldsmith defender Giasuddin made the blunder of the match as he sent the ball into his own goal.

I want to begin with a little story that was told to me by a leading executive at Aptech. He was exercising in a gym with a lot of younger people.

Shekhar Kapur’s Bandit Queen didn’t make the cut. Neither did Shaji Karun’s Piravi, which bagged 31 international awards.
