Nabi, Paul excluded from team
Midfielder Syed Rahim Nabi and goalkeeper Subrata Paul were on Monday left out of a 20-member Indian football squad for a friendly against Tajikistan on August 14.
Nabi, who reported for the IMG-Reliance camp in Mumbai on August 2 for a pre-season camp for the IPL-style football tournament scheduled early next year, was the surprise exclusion.
Custodian Paul though has not been in the best of form in the past one year and was replaced by veteran Sandip Nandy.
All India Football Federation general secretary Kushal Das said he was not in a position to give any reason.
“The national coach can tell you the reason,” he said. Anthony Pereira and Alwyn George were also left out. Tajikistan are 106th in the Fifa rankings while India are 146th.
