Nidhi nets five in team’s win
University of Allahabad, Punjabi University, Patiala, Guru Nanak Dev University, Amritsar and Hemwati Nandan Bahuguna Garhwal University, Srinagar, have moved into the quarter-finals of the North Zone inter-university women’s football tournament at the University Stadium in the capital on Tuesday.
In the morning session, University of Allahabad defeated Chaudhary Devi Lal University, Sirsa, 3-0. The winners had taken the match in their grasp in the first half itself leading 3-0 at half time. Komal Kanojia, Ankita Singh and Vartika Yadav scored in the 8th, 34th and 37th minute respectively.
Later, HNB Garhwal University, Srinagar, beat Dayalbagh Educational Institute, Agra, 5-0. Nidhi gave a flawless performance as she netted all the goals for the winning side. The star striker scored in the 6th, 7th, 40th, 47th and the 59th minutes.
In another match, Punjabi University, Patiala, outplayed Chhatrapati Shahu Ji Maharaj University of Kanpur 4-0 with Amarjeet Kaur and Neha Kumari scoring a brace each. While Amarjeet netted in the 4th and 18th minutes, Neha found the back of the net in the 45th and 60th minutes.
Former champions Guru Nanak Dev University, Amritsar, trounced Ram Manohar Lohia Avadh University of Faizabad 5-0. Nirmaljeet Kaur (18th minute), Jaswinder Kaur (21st), Sharamjeet Kaur (27th), Pooja Rani (48th) and Sonia (50th) were the goal-scorers.
