Not only footballers, even supporters fail to score
Fabio Capello’s men aren’t the only ones ‘under-performing’. The Italian tactician’s ban on WAGS may be hitting the English hard on the field, but it’s not just Wayne Rooney & Co. who haven’t been able to ‘score’.
Contrary to pre-tournament expectations, 40,000 sex workers flew in to the Rainbow Nationa prior to kickoff, the flesh trade industry has failed to woo the travelling fans, many of whom have decided to stay indoors to take shelter from the cold, and cut down on the AIDS risk in a country where more than half of the sex workers are infected by the HIV virus.
Most hotels have asked their security staff to prevent sex workers from walking the streets looking for customers. The ironically named Roxanne was one such sex worker, who was out in the cold in a skimpy mini-skirt. “The World Cup has failed to bring in the cheer for us. The hotels have asked their security to not let us in. And, with the police giving us a hard time as usual our work is being affected,” she said.
