Shimla Youngs have it easy
Shimla Youngs Football Club outplayed New Delhi Heroes FC 4-0, to notch up their first win in a Group A preliminary league match of the Delhi Soccer Association annual senior division open clubs league championship in the capital.
Sanjoy struck a brace (57th and 90th minutes) for Shimla Youngs, while Ajay (19th) and Dhruv (86th) added to the tally.
ND Heroes created many chances, but had only themselves to blame for their poor finishing. Shimla Youngs have now collected three points from five matches and will play their final group game against Hindustan FC. ND Heroes, with just one point from four matches, still have two games to play.
Later, Solutrean-Hindustan Club rallied to hold Garhwal Heroes FC 1-1 in an encounter marred with infringements.
Garhwal held an edge over their rivals with frequent raids down both the flanks, but their forwards failed to encash on the opportunities.
Heroes’ Kamal Rawat’s right-foot placement found the target just before the breather. The teams played out a rough game in the second half, with referee Mahesh Bisht handing red cards to Hindustan’s Jitender and Heroes’ Nigerian recruit Al-Hasan (Jr) following a scuffle.
A Nkuaka Mavula-strike helped Hindustan Club pull off the equaliser in injury time.
In the day’s last match, Shahdara Club held BOM-Ahbab FC 2-2. Festus scored a double for Ahbab, while Shahdara equalised through Shola and Stephen.
