Stringent security arrangement for Messi and Co
With Lionel Messi's Argentina all set to play their FIFA international friendly match against Venezuela on Friday, the police are not taking any chances and tight security arrangements have been put in place for the two teams during their stay here till this Sunday.
A special police team led by DIG (Presidency Range) S N Gupta has been appointed to oversee the security arrangements of both the international teams which will be playing a high voltage game.
According to police sources, the team comprises top-level police officers from the state and Kolkata Police.
"There will be three-tier security system in the hotel and Salt Lake to avoid any kind of untoward situation," sources in the police said.
"Adequate security is being given at the match venue and the hotel where they are staying and everybody will be thoroughly frisked before the entering the football ground," Gupta told the media.
Security has also been beefed up along the stretch from airport to team hotel on EM Bypass with CCTV cameras put in place, police sources said. Metal detectors, CCTVs and modern gadgets would be installed in addition to sniffer dogs to do the frisking job. Bomb squads have also been kept on high alert, the source said.
