Tagore Int’l pip Vasant Valley for DSA title
Tagore International School, East of Kailash, clinched the inaugural Delhi Soccer Association inter-school girls football tournament title, defeating Vasant Valley School of Vasant Kunj 1-0 in the final at the DDA Netaji Subhash sports complex at Jasola in New Delhi.
In an evenly-contested match, both the teams got equal opportunities throughout but could not get the breakthrough.
Tagore International striker Laveena Khurana broke the deadlock in the 27th minute, sending the ball past the rival goalkeeper to put her team ahead. Later, Vasant Valley had a chance to equalise, but forward Naina Lal missed a sitter, much to the team’s agony.
DSA president Subhash Chopra was the chief guest on the occasion. Former football Olympian S.S. Hakeem, international volleyball players Shakti Saggar, Madam Mukesh Saggar, Umesh Sood and Sharafat-ul ah were the others present, and handed over the prizes.
Chandrika Singh of Sanskriti was named the goalkeeper of the tournament, while Meghan (Alcon Public, Mayur Vihar), was adjudged the best defender. Jayanti Jha of Vasant Valley bagged the best midfielder award, while tournament’s highest scorer Dalima Chhibber walked away with the best striker award.
