Transfer roundup
1. Thiago Silva and Zlatan Ibrahimovic to PSG:
Having rejected Paris Saint-Germain’s reported £36.35 million pound offer for the Brazilian centre-back last month, claiming to be determined to hold on to their stars, AC Milan have now made a complete U-Turn, and are now set to sell both Silva, and Ibrahimovic for a combined fee of around £51.5 million, according to The Guardian.
FC Verdict: While the French club seem to be inspired by Manchester City’s revolutionary success model of throwing money at players, they both cost lesser than Andy Carroll plus Stewart Downing.
2. Andy Carroll to any club that will take him:
New Liverpool boss Brendan Rodgers has set about making his preparations for next season, and striker Andy Carroll doesn’t seem to be a part of his plans, despite showing considerable improvement in the past few months.
It was reported that AC Milan would want to sign Carroll on loan for a season before deciding whether to buy him outright or not.
Closer home, West Ham, Fulham, and Queens Park Rangers have shown interest in signing Carroll on loan, with the Hammer’s owner David Gold having publicly expressed interest in signing him, and also reportedly having had preliminary talks with the player’s agent.
FC Verdict: It’s an unfortunate turn of fortunes for Carroll, who not two seasons back, was touted as the next big thing. A loan move however, may be the best thing for him.
3. Fabio Borini to Liverpool:
Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers has already shown us that anyone is expendable, and has made a move for Roma striker Fabio Borini.
Borini, 21, would be Rodger’s first signing as Liverpool boss, after missing out on Sigurdsson, who preferred a move to Tottenham. A deal of around £12 million should be announced within a week.
FC Verdict: A good strong signing for the Reds, the young Italian will compliment Luiz Suarez well. However, what Rodgers has planned for his midfield remains to be seen.
Confirmed Transfers:
* Gylfi Sigurdsson to Tottenham — £8 million
* Jan Vertonghen to Tottenham — £9 million
n Ji-Sung Park to QPR — £5 million
