Waxing eloquent, Ron is still a big hit with fans
His team may have missed out on a berth in the quarters at the ongoing Fifa World Cup but Portugal skipper Cristiano Ronaldo is still scoring with the spectators at Madame Tussauds in Hong Kong and in London.
Piyush Gupta, 15, one of the countless fans of the celebrated Portugal winger has convinced his parents to take him on a short visit to Hong Kong. “I persuaded my dad to take me to Madame Tussauds to help me see my idol. It would have been difficult for us to watch him live in South Africa but his wax figure in Hong Kong will be a treat,” Piyush says.
The wax figure is being displayed at the main entrance. Up next to him will contemporary greats --- Brazil’s Ronaldinho and former England skipper David Beckham. “Ronaldo’s wax figure is a huge hit with the fans. He is a talented star who has progressed through the ranks to the current international level and our footfalls have surged in the last few weeks. We are pleased to welcome his wax figure in our wing,” says Bret Pidgeon, General Manager of Madame Tussauds Hong Kong and Shanghai.
Ronaldo’s sitting for the figure was held at Real Madrid’s training ground in Madrid in 2009 December.
