WB boys make semis
Kalyanghar Vidya Mandir of West Bengal became the last team to book their semi-final berth in the U-14 category of the 53rd Subroto Cup football tournament after beating Simalguri High School, Assam, 3-1 in the fourth quarter-final here on Wednesday.
Shanu Majumder scored a brace (4th, 47th minutes) while Prakash Sarkar chipped in with a goal in the 32nd minute to help their team set up a semi-final clash against Government High School, Meghalaya.
On Tuesday, Greenwood School, Nagaland defeated 10-men Tumpui School of Mizoram 1-0 to book their berth in the final. The Group II winners took the lead in the 26th minute through Nyithung and then went into defensive mode to guard their lead. In the girl’s U-17 section, Our Lady of Rosary School, Goa, reached the quarter-finals after finishing as the second best team from Group I when they blanked Air Force Bal Bharati School, New Delhi 4-0.
The Goan outfit needed to win their last league encounter for a passage to the last eight stage and they did that in style thanks to a hat-trick by Keenda D’Souza who found the net in the 3rd,16th and 32nd minutes.
In the other Group I game, Offee Lalmingahualpuia scored her third hat-trick in as many matches to help table toppers Government Mizo High School, Mizoram, beat Baroda High School 5-0.
