Harendra moves to top in PGTI meet
Chandigarh’s Harendra Gupta fired a two-under 70 to make his way to the top of the leaderboard in the penultimate round of the PGTI Players Championship at the Aamby Valley City in Pune on Thursday.
Gupta’s total was eight-under 208, one stroke ahead of Arshdeep Tiwana of Gurgaon and Delhi’s Vinod Kumar, who were at seven-under 209.
Gupta (68, 70, 70), tied second overnight, started his day with a 10 foot birdie putt on the first. He dropped a bogey on the fourth after finding the hazard, but more than compensated with birdies on the fifth and par-5 seventh.
On his back nine, he bogeyed the 10th before knocking down a nine feet birdie putt on the 16th. “It’s been a very consistent week for me so far. I hit some accurate second shots today. However, the placement of my tee shots wasn’t that good on the day. I struggled off the tees due to the wind. Putting is the key on this course and I will need to grab my chances on the greens tomorrow to stay on top,” said Gupta.
Tiwana’s (72, 72, 65) gallant seven-under-65 accounted for the day’s best score and propelled him from overnight tied 22nd to tied second place.
“It was a perfect day of golf for me. The putter was hot as I converted five putts from a range of 15 to 25 feet, including two to save par,” said Tiwana, whose round was laced by an eagle as well as five birdies.
Australia’s Anthony Choat with six-under-210 was placed fourth, while Delhi’s Rashid Khan, the overnight leader, slipped to tied 12th position after a disappointing 76.
