Hawk-eyed eagleton boys hold edge
The expansive greens at the Eagleton golf resort like any sporting venue, is a place which rekindles fond memories and recounts milestones of many golfers.
On Tuesday, when the PGTI Eagleburg Open gets under way here, three men will step out on a course which has defined their careers.
The in-form Anirban Lahiri, seasoned C. Muniyappa and rookie S. Chikkarangappa will be the ones to beat in their backyard at the `30 lakh prize money event.
Muniyappa, who is making his way back after a year-and-half injury lay-off, ended his 12-year wait for a professional title with the Toyota Altis Open triumph in 2008, while Lahiri, who won PGTI Players Championship in Pune last week, will look for his first pro-title on his home course.
The freshly turned 26-year-old Lahiri, who has had a consistent month both on the Asian and domestic Tour, said, “It’s been a gradual progression for me over the last three weeks. I finished tied 10th at the Queen’s Cup then ended runner-up at the Selangor Masters before winning at Oxford last week.”
With the weather being windy, the greens will be difficult to read and will be tricky as always for a clutch of players led by reigning Rolex Rankings champion Shamim Khan.
Other players in fray include Himmat Singh Rai, Mukesh Kumar, Rahil Gangjee, Shankar Das, Manav Jaini and Rashid Khan.
The local boys who will be seen in action are R. Murthy, M. Dharma, Abhishek Jha, R. Srinivas and Khalin Joshi.
