Joshi keen to maintain steady run
With a few consistent performances last season that included a couple of wins, Khalin Joshi emerged as one of the brightest golfing prospect in the country. Going into his first professional tournament — the Louis Philippe Cup that begins next month — an excited Joshi says that he wants to carry ahead his “consistent show” to the new season.
Currently vying for a Asian Tour berth along with 17 other Indians in Thailand, Joshi is keenly looking forward to the IPL-style event, stated from February 11 in Greater Noida, where he would represent the Take Solutions Chennai team.
In a candid interview, the Bengalurean reflects on the season gone by and expectations ahead. Excerpts:
Can you reflect on your 2012 season?
The last year was very good for me. I’ve been very consistent last year, winning 4-5 tournaments. My scoring was somewhere around 70, which I think is quite good. And I’m really happy with my consistency internationally and domestically both. I am looking forward to maintain it in the upcoming season too. The plan is to bring in the consistency part of my last season to the new one. I’m excited to be playing on the pro circuit.
What was the highlight for you?
I won on my home course KGA where I shot a 17 under in four days, broke all the records just before turning a pro.
And what was the low point?
Maybe it was the Indian Open. I struggled a bit with my short game for a period of four to five weeks.
How excited are you for the Louis Philippe Cup?
I am going into my first pro tournament and it’s really exciting that I’ll be playing in the same field as Jeev (Milkha Singh), Gaganjeet (Bhullar), Jyoti (Randhawa), Anirban (Lahiri) and others.
