Madappa in sole lead

Overnight joint topper Viraj Madappa of the Tollygunge Golf Club emerged the sole leader in the Toyota IGU Northern India Juniors at the Golden Greens Golf Resort in Gurgaon on Thursday, with a total score of 220 (74-72-74).

The youngster was tied with other contenders on the top of the leader board for the first two days
In the combined age categories, Madappa was closely followed by Prakhar Asawa from Rambagh Golf Club and Aman Raj from the Patna Golf Club, who were just a stroke behind with scores of 221.
The 18-year-old Madappa put in another steady performance on the third day, carding a two over par-74 to maintain the lead. Prakhar Asawa who finished Day Two as the tied leader in the under-14 category, had a 2 over par 74 on the day to finish second in the combined categories.
Said Madappa, “I always try to give a consistent performance. I had two bogeys in the front nine but I came back strong on the back nine with an opening birdie.”
About the pressure of heading into a tough final day as one of the contenders, he said, “I am feeling pretty nice because I had a strong day today. The pressure has eased to some extent as I am a stroke ahead.
“My plan for tomorrow is to play according to the situation and see how it goes.”
