Madappa starts favourite in C’garh
Kolkata’s Viraj Madappa, who recently won the Northern Indian juniors, will have a good opportunity to build on that and catch up with the Order of Merit leaders, when he tees off at the Usha IGU Punjab Junior golf championships in Chandigarh on Tuesday.
Viraj is currently third on the Order of Merit in Category A-B where the top two, Aman Raj and Manu Gandas, are away playing in Korea this week. Also away is Shubhankar Sharma.
Madappa, who trains at the Tollygunge Club in Kolkata, starts as one of the favourites in the event.
In Category B, Piyush Sangwan will have a chance to catch Prakhar Asawa who is also in Korea. Sangwan plays at the DLF Golf and Country Club. A total of 72 players are competing in the tournament, to be held at the Shivalik Golf Course, Chandi Mandir.
