For the country’ s top two golfers, Smriti Mehra and Sharmila Nicolett, fortunes shifted on the second day of the Hero Women’s Pro golf tour 2013 third leg at the Bombay Presidency Golf Club on Wednesday.

Sharmila, who failed to impress on the first day with an over-par card, made a strong comeback on the day to lead the field by three strokes with a one-under 69 for a total of 140.
Overnight leader Smriti returned a poor card of five-over 75 to share second place with Neha Tripathi (75,68). After 36 holes, they aggregated 143.
Sharmila, who started the day trailing Smriti by three shots, collected birdies on the first, eighth and 14th against bogeys on the second and seventh holes.
Smriti, winner of the second leg, had an erratic day with three birdies (fourth, eighth and 12th) and four bogeys (first, seventh, ninth and 11th). She also found two double bogeys (13th and 18th) for a disappointing card.
Kolkata’s Neha played some consistent golf for the best individual score of the day of two-under 68.
She had birdies on the fifth, eighth and 11th against a bogey on the sixth.
Rani Sonti also carded five-over 75 and was placed fourth with 148. Delhi’s Vani Kapoor and Saaniya Sharma were joint fifth on 152.’

I want to begin with a little story that was told to me by a leading executive at Aptech. He was exercising in a gym with a lot of younger people.

Shekhar Kapur’s Bandit Queen didn’t make the cut. Neither did Shaji Karun’s Piravi, which bagged 31 international awards.
