Tutul, Rohan share Day 1 lead
Kolkata’s Tutul Ali and Rohan Rana of Delhi shared the opening day’s honours at the Usha-IGU Delhi junior golf championships in the capital.
Ali and Rana, who carded even-par 70 each, were two shots clear of the field, with Mohan Sardar in third place with a 73 in Category ‘A’.
Ali, coached by former India pro Indrajit Bhalotia, is the nephew of former Indian Open winner Feroz Ali, and represented the country at the Callaway world junior championships last year.
Starting off aggressively, Ali found six birdies, two on the front nine and four on the backstretch. But he also dropped three shots on both sides of the turn.
Rana, meanwhile, had one birdie against two bogeys on the front nine, but then he recovered with back-to-back birdies on the 11th and 12th holes before he finished the day with a another birdie on the 18th.
Shubham Narain, Jairaj Singh Sandhu and Tapendra Ghai shared fourth place with rounds of 74 each.
Kartikey Vashisht, second at the season-opening Haryana junior championships, shot 77, while Manu Gandas carded 75.
In Category ‘B’, Jaiveer Singh held the lead with a round of 74 with Arjun Prasad in second place on 75 along with Hassan Rahman.
There are 74 players in the field for the event, recognised by the Indian Golf Union.
