Two in a row for Gandas
Playing aggressive golf, Manu Gandas shot a second successive three-under 69 and romped home a comfortable winner by three shots at the Usha Karnataka junior golf tournament in Bengaluru on Friday.
It was the second successive win of the season for Gandas, who also won the Usha Delhi juniors earlier. He was third in the Haryana juniors.
Starting the final day at the Eagleton Golf Club two shots ahead of Viraj Madappa, Gandas never let go of the lead with three birdies in his first five holes and four on the front nine to total 282.
Madappa for his part did give a fight with a two-under 34 for the front nine and narrowed the lead to one shot. On the back nine, Gandas had three birdies and one bogey, while Madappa managed only one bogey and a birdie came too late on 18th to finish at 285.
Piyush Sangwan stumbled with a 76 to finish third at 294. Pukhraj Gill, the first round leader, crashed to a nine-over 81 and was fourth at 297. Jairaj Sandhu (74) and Tapendra Ghai (76) were tied fifth at 302. Feroze Garewal (75) was seventh at 304.
In Category B, Arjun Prasad (75-76-76-74) completed a start-to-finish win at 301, a score that fetched him fifth place overall for Category A and B combined.
Tanvir Kahlon (77-78-76-77) was second at 308 and Kartik Sharma (77-79-76-81) was third at 313.
