Pro debutant Vani Kapoor shrugged off the nerves with a brilliant four-under 68 that gave her a four-shot lead going into the third and final round of the `10 lakh Hero-KGA Women’s Pro Golf 2012 in Bengaluru on Thursday.

Vani had dominated the amateur Tour till recently. She admitted to being jittery on the opening day.
But on Thursday, she was back to her confident self. The 18-year old blazed through with five birdies and a bogey on a fine golfing day to move four shots clear of overnight leader Sharmila Nicollet — who struggled on the greens during her round of 76.
Vani had a total of 143 after 36 holes, while Sharmila was placed at three-over 147 in the second place in the first leg of the 2012 Hero-WGAI Tour.
Apart from Vani, veteran Smriti Mehra (71) was the only other player to bring home a sub-par round on the day. Smriti, a seven-time winner in 15 starts last year, made up for her slow start on the previous day, adding a 71 to the first day score of 77. At four-over 148, she was five behind Vani and one behind Sharmila.
Nalini Singh Siwach (76) and Neha Tripathi (78) were fourth and fifth at 150 and 151, respectively as the rest of the field — barring Vani — had a tough time on the greens. “All parts of my game worked today. I had 11 fairways and 14 greens in regulation, though the 30 putts could have been a bit better. But I am happy. My first pro tournament and I am in lead... so I can’t complain,” Vani said.

I want to begin with a little story that was told to me by a leading executive at Aptech. He was exercising in a gym with a lot of younger people.

Shekhar Kapur’s Bandit Queen didn’t make the cut. Neither did Shaji Karun’s Piravi, which bagged 31 international awards.
