Age no bar
It’s amazing how some women have skin that can withstand the effect of time. Take any of the beauties who are past 35 — Malaika Arora Khan, Mehr Jessia Rampal, Jennifer Aniston, Twinkle Khanna — they are all gorgeous enough to give any 20-something a run for her money.
While we all envy these ladies, experts say that it’s not too difficult to get flawless, youthful skin like theirs. “When you are in your 20s, wrinkles, spots and crow’s feet are the last thing on your mind, but if you start following a healthy skincare routine right from the time you are 27 or 28 then you can delay the signs of ageing,” says renowned beauty expert Dr Blossom Kochhar.
“Follow a simple cleansing-toning-moisturising routine. Choose products that suit your age and skin type the best. Most women think that they need to use anti-ageing products only after they’re 40 but that’s not true. It’s best to begin using them while in your mid-30s because these products actually help a great deal to delay the signs of ageing,” explains Farzana Batliwala, a make-up artiste and consultant. Another beauty aid that one must never compromise on is sunscreen. “Always wear your sunglasses when you step out, this helps to avoid wrinkles around the eyes,” asserts Dr Blossom.
Exfoliation is also an important step. “If you don’t have the time to go for facials often, use an exfoliator at home — this keeps the dead cells away, beats pigmentation problems and unclogs pores, all of which are the primary cause of ageing,” she explains.
A skincare routine at night might not be high priority for women in their 20s, but setting aside 10 minutes at night could prove to be a wise investment a decade later. “Vitamin A is one of the key ingredients of night creams and this helps to encourage collagen production, restores elasticity and skin tone, which leaves the skin looking young,” says Farzana.
“Women should be very concerned and fussy when it comes to their skin. The minute you notice the slightest discomfort — a rash, a heat boil or even a pimple, you need to go to the doctor. Such occurrences are very unusual for women past 25 and it could be the signal that your skin needs some extra care,” says Dr Blossom.
