Enter the svelte, perfect bride
It’s every bride’s dream to look her best on D-Day. What better than a perfect workout regimen to help her realise the dream. While it’s a stress-free regime for some, it’s an action-packed, well-balanced routine for others. Celebrities like Lara Dutta, Jessica Simpson and Hilary Duff have reportedly benefited from these workouts.
Experts caution that it’s not advisable to plunge into a workout regime two-three months before the wedding.
Payal Gidwani, Bollywood fitness trainer, who is presently training Kareena Kapoor and Saif Ali Khan, says, “Brides are generally subject to high stress levels just before D-Day so it will not work if they wake up one fine day and decide to do a makeover. This will only lead to complications.”
Mickey Mehta, India’s holistic health guru, also suggests that the workout must begin well in advance and has this to say, “Begin your routine with a suitable warm up and flexibility exercises. These are essential to prevent sprains, injuries etc and for a better range of movements of the spine, hips, knees etc. Begin with spot jogging, jumping jacks, stretches for the calves, hamstrings and back; followed by neck/head rotations, side stretches etc. Other aerobic exercises like walking, running, swimming, cycling and climbing stairs are also recommended.”
Dumbbell workout, resistance free workout, and equipment free workout are some of the common exercises that work wonders prior to the wedding. Says fitness trainer Kala Lakshmi, “For those who have been exercising regularly, a combination of yoga, cardio and gym workouts will help. For beginners, even fast walking, spinning and lunges will have satisfactory results — over a period of time.”
Nutritionists advise cutting down on carbohydrates and sugary food well in advance. Shiny Chandran, a renowned nutritionist in the south, says, “High energy foods are ideal. Fruits, juices and fibre-rich food will provide a glow to the skin, which is the ultimate goal for any bride.”
Experts say that snacking in intervals and keeping away from extreme diet plans yield best results. Says Payal, “Young brides must not stress on exercises. Instead, they must have a target weight loss and list target areas before going in for any sort of workout. If the workout plan is well-balanced, the glow will come automatically.”
Mickey sums it up, saying, “Right food choices strengthen and purify the mind, body and spirit. Up to 70 per cent of any transformation is through sensible eating.”
