Asian Games hockey: India crush Thailand 13-0
The Indian women's hockey team crushed Thailand 13-0 but the emphatic victory on Friday came too late in the day as they are already out of the contention for a final berth in the Asian Games. India converted four of their 11 penalty corners and the rest were field goals.
India was leading 7-0 in the first half. Captain Surinder Kaur led from the front, slamming four goals (28th minute, 31th, 60th and 63rd.) Rani Rampal, who combined well with Surinder in the front, struck three (20th, 42nd, 66th) Subhadra Pradhan converted two penalty corners (24th, 57th).
Chanchan Thokchom, who opened the scoring for India in the 12th minute, Saba Anjum (15th), Poonam Rani (34th) and Joydeep Kaur (65) slotted one goal each. India, who won a bronze medal in the previous edition at Doha, are now fourth in the pool with two wins and two losses.
They lost to Japan and South Korea in the last two matches, which dashed their hopes of making the final. South Korea tops the pool with 12 points from four matches, followed by China and Japan on nine points each. India will next play Kazakhstan on Monday and the take on China on Wednesday.
