Chandigarh, NCC girls in semis
Government Girls Model Senior Secondary School of Sector-18, Chandigarh, registered a 5-1 win over SS Girls High School from Simdega, Jharkhand, in their final Super League encounter of the 19th Nehru girls hockey tournament in the capital on Tuesday.
The win ensured a semi-final berth for the Chandigarh girls, who will meet Kiddy’s Corner Higher Secondary School of Gwalior in their last four encounter on Wednesday.
The Chandigarh girls did not face much resistance from the Jharkhand side, and led 2-0 by half time. Saroj excelled with a hat-trick, while Anjali scored one. The fifth goal was a own-goal. For SS Girls, Suganto Dung Dung reduced the margin.
In the day’s other Super League match, Directorate General, NCC, came from a goal down to beat Rourkela’s Birsa Munda Vidyapitha 2-1 to clinch the last semis berth. Sarojini Ekka put the Rourkela girls ahead in the 16th minute.
Pinki Ekka brought home the equaliser for NCC, while an own-goal helped the team seal the issue.
