Railways, namdhari XI score big wins at H.I. sr men’s hockey nationals
Railways hammered Sashastra Seema Bal 13-1 to register their second consecutive win in Pool F of the 3rd Hockey India senior men’s national championship in Pune on Wednesday.
Jasjeet Singh scored four goals followed by captain Sanjay Bir (3), Vinood Kumar Singh (2), Gagandeep Singh (2), Irshad Mirza (1) and Narad Bahadur (1) while Pankaj Nath Sharma was the lone scorer for SSB, who lost their second game in a row.
In Pool B, Madhya Pradesh Hockey Academy also scored a second consecutive win as they brushed aside Chhattisgarh 5-1.
Arman Quershi struck a brace while Raju Singh, Sarfraj Khan and Vikas Choudhary added a goal each for the MPHA. Prince Yadav reduced the margin for Chhattisgarh .
In another Pool B match, Puducherry defeated Tripura 7-5. In Pool F, Namdhari XI trounced Jammu & Kashmir 10-1 in their first league match.
For Namdhari XI, Gurpreet Singh topped the scorers list with three goals, followed by Gurvinder Singh (2), Karamjit Singh (1), Harpreet Singh (1), Didar Singh (1), Gurpreet Singh (1) and Sher Singh (1) while Rajinder Singh scored the only goal for J&K, who lost their second match in a row.
Last year’s semi-finalists Haryana beat Mumbai Hockey Association Limited 5-3 in their Pool D league match.
In the other Pool D match, Uttar Pradesh blanked hosts Hockey Maharashtra 3-0. For UP, Chandan Singh scored (2) and Siddartha (1) were on target. TN breezed past Assam 8-2 in their league their Pool H match.
