Rourkela boys win
Delhi’s Guru Harkrishan Public School, India Gate, held Government Senior Secondary School, Jhakar, to a 1-1 draw in the 41st Nehru junior boys hockey tournament, played at the Shivaji Stadium in the capital on Tuesday.
Lovejeet Singh struck in the second minute of the match to give the Jharkar boys the lead 1-0.
For the Delhi side, Jugraj Singh scored the equaliser in the 45th minute.
In the second match between Meham’s Government Senior Secondary School and Mehta Gurukul Public Senior Secondary School, Doraha, Ludhiana, the former won 4-2.
The Meham school’s skipper Dharmendra scored in the 30th and 46th minutes, while Navdeep and Rajant netted in the fourth and 18th minutes respectively.
For the Doraha side, Ramanpreet Singh (28th, 40th mins) scored both goals to see his team emerge winner.
Later in the day, Birsa Munda Vidyapith of Rourkela demolished Khajamian Higher Secondary School, Trichy, Tamil Nadu, by a 6-1 margin.
Off to a strong start, Birsa Munda Vidyapith sounded the boards in the very first minute, with Amit Chirmaro scoring off a penalty corner.
Suraj Minz (25th, 53rd mins) added to the tally, while Nitin M. Tigga (44th min) and captain Sumit Toggo (62nd) completed the job.
