Sonepat, Meerut girls prevail
Tika Ram Girls Senior Secondary School of Sonepat quelled a strong challenge from S.S. Girls High School of Simdega, Jharkhand, to prevail 2-1 in their Super League encounter of the 19th Nehru girls junior hockey tournament at the Shivaji Stadium in the capital on Monday.
Locked 1-1 till the 66th minute, forward Devika did the star turn, scoring a field goal three minutes from the hooter to seal full points for her team. Earlier, the Sonepat girls had taken the lead through a penalty corner conversion by Nicky, while Binita Tirkey fetched home the equaliser for the Jharkhand girls.
In another match, Meerut’s Raghunath Girls Inter-College registered an authoritative 13-0 win over Vidya Devi Jindal School of Hisar. Sonam and Shally shared eight goals for the winners. Later, Directorate General, NCC, enjoyed an easy outing against Government Girls High School, Purnia, winning by a 9-0 margin. Ranjita Ming scored four goals, while Pinki Ekka struck a hat-trick.
In the day’s last match, Kiddy’s Corner Girls Higher Secondary School, Gwalior, beat Government Lallengvunga High School of Thenzawl 5-1.
