Staniforth named goalkeeping coach
Former South Africa player Dave Staniforth has been named as goalkeeping coach and strategic analyst of the senior and junior men’s teams, Hockey India announced on day.
The 37-year-old Staniforth, who represented his country in 65 internationals, has worked as goalkeeping coach with the South African national side for three years.
Staniforth was also goalkeeping coach and video analyst of Ranchi Rhinos, the inaugural champions of the Hockey India League.
Hockey India secretary-general Narinder Batra said Staniforth’s appointment would benefit all the goalkeepers in the core probables immensely.
“Hockey as a sport is about precise strategy and execution, so I believe that Dave’s appointment will be significant ahead of the major events including the junior men’s World Cup 2013 and senior men’s World Cup 2014,” Batra said.
Staniforth exuded confidence at the tough assignments ahead.
HI to give Nobbs send-off on Saturday
India’s outgoing chief coach Michael Nobbs will be given a send-off in Patiala on Saturday, Jiji Thomson, the director general of Sports Authority of India said on Thursday.
Nobbs, whose contract officially ends at the end of this month, is leaving for Patiala’s National Institute of Sports on Friday.
