Uttar Pradesh score thumping win

Uttar Pradesh mauled Manipur 17-1 in a Pool B match of the Federation Cup men’s hockey tournament at the Shivaji Stadium in New Delhi on Wednesday. The event is being run by the Indian Hockey Federation.

Farooqh (4th, 14th, 48th, 56th, 70th minutes) and Diwakar Ram (28th, 30th, 39th, 59th, 61st) netted five goals apiece for Uttar Pradesh.
Jagwant Singh (7th, 9th, 50th, 69th) sounded the board four times while Sarabjit Singh (37th), Deepak Singh (7th) and Pramod Kumar (60th) added one each for UP.
K. Debeshor (64th) was the lone scorer for Manipur.
In another Pool B match, Ajit Pandit’s hat-trick (6th, 23th, 59th minutes) helped Punjab beat Haryana 7-2. Punjab were ahead 3-1 at half time and continued their domination in the second half too.
Ajay Kumar (13th), Rajin Kaldulna (44th), Parvinder Singh (61st) and Gurjant Singh (63rd) struck one goal each for Punjab while Amrit Chatha (28th) and Pravesh (42th) scored for Haryana.
In Pool A, Karnataka and Mumbai played out a 2-2 draw. Karnataka opened their account through Mohammad Naeemuddin in the 16th minute, before Vikas Topo equalised seven minutes later. Karnataka were up 2-1 at the half time break, with Deepak Beijwad finding the net at the stroke of the whistle.
Karnataka seemed to be walking away with three points, before Topo struck again to force the game into a draw.
In another Pool A match, Tamil Nadu beat Delhi 7-3 to register their second victory.
Stalin David (17th) drew first blood for Tamil Nadu while Vinod Rayer doubled the lead within two minutes to give the visitors an impressive start.
Rayer and Rafeeq pumped in two goals in two minutes after Delhi’s Rahul Singh (30th) had reduced the margin.
Tamil Nadu consolidated the lead through Adam Sinclair (37th), Albert (43rd) and Sathya (58th), while Ashok Kumar (62nd) and Faraz Khan (65th) scored for the hosts late in the match.
