1 lakh owner quota seats to go vacant
As many as 2.4 lakh engineering seats are on offer in the convener’s quota for 2.07 lakh students qualified in the Eamcet engineering entrance exam this year. Even after a seat is guaranteed to all the qualified students, about 33,000 seats will go vacant in the convener’s quota this year. There are another 1,34,446 seats available in the management quota (30% seats), in which over one lakh seats are expected to go vacant. An estimated 1.5 lakh seats could be vacant after the counselling ends since a significant number of students have already got admission in colleges in other states because of the delay in Eamcet counselling.
With 483 colleges out of 700 accepting the common fees of Rs 35,000, the Eamcet admissions committee on Sunday issued the long-awaited engineering web-based counselling notification that was delayed due to the row over common fees. The fees in remaining 200 colleges will be finalised by August 27 and will be posted on the website to enable students to know the fee structure before they apply for those colleges in the counselling from August 30.
While the government will reimburse the entire fee of Rs 35,000 for eligible students, a decision on the amount of fee reimbursement for colleges in which the fee will be more than Rs 35,000, will be taken by the government later. “The web-based counselling will begin with certification verification from August 27 to September 6. Students will be called rank-wise for certificate verification. We have set up 54 helpline centres across the state for the purpose. Students will be allowed to give options on colleges and courses online from August 30 to September 8. They will be given a chance to change their options on September 9 and 10. The list will be released on September 12 and will be posted on the website after 6 pm. The first year classes will commence from September 17,” said Prof. Jayaprakash Rao, chairman, APSCHE.
Prof. Rao said that nearly 38,870 additional engineering seats have come up this year over last year.
“A total of 3,74,446 seats are on offer in 717 engineering colleges this year. Of them, 3,67,990 seats are in 687 private colleges and 38,340 seats are in 30 university colleges. Seventy per cent of the seats amounting to 2.4 lakh will be filled through counselling based on merit, while the students who qualified in Eamcet engineering this year are just 2.07 lakh,” Prof. Rao said. He cautioned students against disclosing their passwords.
